Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic Tees off at  Delaware Springs Golf Course

The Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic returns to the heart of the Texas Hill Country, bringing the Legends Junior Tour back to Delaware Springs Golf Course for one of the early milestones of the 2026 season.

Set for Jan. 31–Feb. 1, the tournament marks the second stop on the Legends Junior Tour calendar and offers competitors an early chance to build momentum as the season begins to take shape.

“We are excited to return to Delaware Springs Golf Course for the 2026 edition of the Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic,” Legends Junior Tour Tournament Director Scott Davidson  said. “We were at this course back in 2024. The staff and membership are phenomenal, and they love getting to see the talent on the Legends Junior Tour.”

With majors quickly approaching, the Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic presents an important opportunity for players to earn valuable points and exemptions early in the year.

“Coming off the Winter Classic, the kids are really amped to get back out and compete,” Davidson said. “They know it’s a long season with a lot of events, but getting off to a quick start can be really helpful.”

The tournament is named after Jimmy Demaret, a Houston native born on May 24, 1910, who made a lasting impact on professional golf. Over the course of his career, Demaret captured three Masters titles and earned 31 victories on the PGA Tour. One of his most notable years came in 1947, when he won the Vardon Trophy and finished the season as the tour’s leading money winner. Famous for his bold fashion sense, which earned him the nickname “The Wardrobe,” Demaret later helped establish both the Senior Tour and Champions Golf Club, a venue that has hosted several major events. He also represented the United States in four Ryder Cups and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Although he passed away in 1983, his influence on the game remains strong.

“Its fun getting to have a tournament named after such a great Texas Golfing Legends,” Davidson commented. “It’s great for the players to learn who has come before them and also give them motivation for all they want to achieve in the game.”

Delaware Springs Golf Course, a city-owned facility located in Burnet, Texas, opened in 1992 and was designed by Dave Axland and Dan Proctor. Known for its classic, minimalist approach, the course leans into the natural Hill Country landscape, using elevation changes, strategic bunkering and penalty areas to challenge players across all divisions.

The course’s reputation extends beyond the region, earning recognition as one of the top municipal courses in Texas and a place in Jeff Barr’s “1001 Golf Holes You Must Play Before You Die.”

The Legends Junior Tour last visited Delaware Springs in 2024, a memorable stop highlighted by Sterling Hurd’s historic performance. Hurd completed a three-peat at the event and added a rare moment on the par-4 17th hole, recording a hole-in-one amid gusting winds.

The 2025 Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic, held at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, delivered its own share of storylines. University of Houston men’s golfer Matt Pawly of San Antonio captured the Boys Division title with rounds of 70-72, finishing at 2-under 142 to win by three strokes.

In the Girls Division, Stephanie De Marco continued her strong form from the previous season. The 2024 Girls Division Player of the Year followed up her Winter Classic victory by carding rounds of 73-74 to finish at 4-over 148, winning by five strokes.

Isaiah Diaz of Del Rio claimed the Boys 14 & Under Division title with rounds of 76-68 to finish at even-par 144. The win marked the beginning of a standout 2025 campaign for the Class of 2029 player, who went on to win five events and earn a spot in the Jackie Burke Cup at Galveston Country Club.

The Legends Junior Tour operates under the Texas Junior Golf Alliance, a partnership between the Texas Golf Association, Northern Texas PGA and Southern Texas PGA, designed to provide a clear developmental pathway for junior golfers across the state.

The 2026 Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic will be contested over 36 holes of stroke play with a limited field of 84 players. Round 1 is scheduled to begin Saturday, Jan. 31, with tee times starting at 8 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10.
