Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic Set for Big Weekend

DALLAS— The LJT Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic returns to Flintrock Falls Golf Course at The Hills Country Club on Feb. 2-3 as players gear up for a big weekend.

The event is named after one of Texas’ true golfing legends, Jimmy Demaret, who won three Masters Tournaments and 31 PGA Tour events in a career that spanned from 1935-57. He became the first three-time winner of the Masters after his victory in 1950 and was elected into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1983. The inaugural event was held at Onion Creek Club in 2008.

The tournament is scheduled for 36 holes of stroke play, 18 holes on both Saturday and Sunday. The event features 84 golfers playing in three different divisions: Boys 15-18, Boys 14 & Under and the Girls 12-18 Divisions. This is the second event of 2019 following the Winter Classic held at Dallas Athletic Club in January.

In addition to being ranked by Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard, players compete for AJGA Performance Stars as well as exemptions into Legends Junior Tour invitational events like the Byron Nelson Junior Championship, Texas Junior Amateur, Texas Cup Invitational, and Texas Girls’ Invitational.

The Hills Country Club’s Flintrock Falls Course is nestled in the heart of the Texas Hills Country. The par-72 layout was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II and forces golfers to hit a variety of shots to maneuver around the course while missing all the bunkers. Flintrock Falls last hosted the Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic in 2016.

Spring’s Matthew Spaulding won the Boys 15-18 Division in last year’s event, shooting 76-72 over two days to win by one stroke. Abilene’s Maddi Olson won the Girls 12-18 Division with rounds of 71-73, while Austin’s Zach Kingsland won the Boys 14 & Under Division at 3-under-par.

Other past champions of this event include Cooper Dossey, Philip Barbaree, Cole Hammer, Annika Clark, Maddie Szeryk, Tayler Termeer, Mac Meissner, Macy Fox and Libby Thomas.

Tee times are scheduled for 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM both days with players teeing off the No. 1 and 10 tees. Following the conclusion of play on Sunday, awards will be handed out to the top finishers of each division.
