Jackie Burke Cup set to represent some of the best Junior Golfers in Texas

ADDISON — The Jackie Burke Cup will take place at Hurricane Creek Country Club on Nov. 8-9, showcasing some of the best junior golfers in Texas. Two teams of 12 will represent the northern and southern regions of the state.

“This is such a great event, and we always look forward to it every year,” said Legends Junior Tournament Director Scott Davidson. “The kids build up points through tournament wins and top finishes, and they look forward to this all season. We don’t have many match play format tournaments, so they love facing off against each other and showcasing their skills.”

Opened in 1968, Hurricane Creek Country Club is located in Anna, just north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The club is a community gem, situated in the rolling hills and open land of Anna. It is recognized as one of the premier golf clubs in North Texas and the entire state. With bent grass greens, lakes, and tree-lined fairways, the course offers a superior golfing experience. Stretching 7,027 yards from the back tees, it will provide a great challenge for the tournament. This marks the first Legends Junior Tour event at Hurricane Creek Country Club.

“This event usually caps off our year, but due to Hurricane Beryl in July, we have a few rescheduled events following this tournament,” Davidson noted. “Nonetheless, this tournament is still a fantastic way to recognize our top players and all they have accomplished this season.”

First conducted in 2005, the tournament is named after one of Texas’s most accomplished golfers, Jackie Burke Jr., who passed away earlier this year. Burke won 17 PGA events and made history by winning the Masters and the PGA Championship in 1956.

“It’s such an honor to have this tournament named after not only a great golfer but an even better man,” Davidson said. “We were fortunate to cross paths with Jackie Burke Jr. at this event in the past, and we were saddened by his passing.”

Each team consists of eight players from the Boys 15-18 Division, two from the Girls 12-18 Division, and two from the Boys 14 & Under Division. The Jackie Burke Cup is an invitation-only event featuring the top 12 players from North Texas facing off against their counterparts from South Texas in a Ryder Cup-style competition.

Teams will compete in Four-Ball, Foursome, and Singles matches over the two days, with each match worth two points. A tied match is split, with one point awarded to each team. Matches will begin with six Four-Ball contests on Saturday morning, followed by six Foursome matches in the afternoon. On Sunday, players will compete in 12 Singles matches, with a total of 48 points available over the weekend. The South Team will need 24 points to retain the cup, while the North Team will require 25 points to win.

The South Team is looking to win its third consecutive title after defeating the North at The Hideout Golf Club & Resort in 2022 and again at Eagles Bluff Country Club in 2023. The South Team leads the overall competition 10-9.
