Intern Spotlight: Courtney Brewer
For University of Oregon rising senior Courtney Brewer, a summer with the Texas Golf Association as the Communications Intern has been nothing short of “immersive.”
Brewer, a marketing and communications intern, said the opportunity gave her valuable real-world experience while connecting with peers who share similar career aspirations.
“My favorite part of this internship has been connecting with peers who share similar interests and career goals,” Brewer said. “I’ve learned and grown through conversations with others who have a like-minded approach to their future aspirations. I’ve also gained valuable real-world experience in the marketing field, which has strengthened my confidence through the projects I’ve worked on.”
Among those projects, Brewer is especially proud of her work on the BGD Empowerment Academy in Houston. The program provides young girls with hands-on exposure to the golf industry, including opportunities to play collegiately, compete professionally and pursue careers in the game.
“Seeing the direct impact of the work we do behind the scenes on the next generation of women’s golf was amazing to see,” Brewer said.
Brewer’s internship responsibilities ranged from collecting content at events and developing creative materials for marketing campaigns to analyzing performance metrics and assisting with social media outreach. She said the role has given her confidence in navigating real-world challenges while sharpening her professional skills.
“This internship has allowed me to gain experience in real-world situations, develop the skills to navigate them effectively, and better understand what the day-to-day in this field looks like,” she said.
Brewer also enjoyed the personal connections made throughout the summer, especially while working at a 2-Person Shamble Member Event at Sugar Tree Golf Club.
“Everyone who participated brought great energy and a genuine love for the game,” Brewer said. “I had a great time being on-site and interacting with members of the TGA.”
She credits the program with helping her develop strong interpersonal communication skills, adapt her style for different audiences, and collaborate in team settings.
Looking back, Brewer offered advice for those who may follow in her footsteps: embrace the experience.
“I would describe my internship experience as immersive,” she said. “The exposure I’ve had to the marketing field at TGA has allowed me to learn new skills and gain insights from different departments, helping me build skills I can use in the future while also giving me a clearer sense of the career path I want to pursue.”
