ADDISON – Hytera US, an industry leader in digital radio communications, has strengthened its partnership with the Texas Golf Association and has become the presenting sponsor of a second TGA Major Championship.

The 116th Texas Amateur, presented by Hytera US, will be played June 12-15 at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco. Registration for the 15 single-day qualifying tournaments across the state for this year’s championship begins Jan. 28. The solutions-oriented communications company will also sponsor next summer’s 117th Texas Amateur presented by Hytera US at Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Austin.

In addition to sponsoring the oldest and most prestigious amateur championship in Texas, California-based Hytera US is also the presenting sponsor of the Texas Mid-Amateur through 2026.

“Hytera US proved to be an excellent partner at last fall’s Texas Mid-Amateur. We’re looking forward to taking things to the next level with them at the Texas Amateur,” said TGA Senior Tournament Director Chris Untiedt. “Communication is a critical element to conducting successful tournaments. The TGA switched to Hytera US digital radios a couple years ago, and they’ve done a great job keeping our staff, volunteers, and club personnel connected. We’re proud to use Hytera US radios across all of our events, and we couldn’t be happier to have Hytera US as the presenting sponsor of the biggest amateur championship in the state.”

Hytera US comes onboard the Texas Amateur at an exciting time. In 2024, the annual 72-hole, stroke play championship earned the distinction of being an official USGA Exemption Event. That means in addition to hoisting the coveted H.L. Edwards Memorial Trophy, the winner of the 116th Texas Amateur presented by Hytera US receives an exemption into the 125th U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club in San Francisco from Aug. 11-17.

“We are extremely excited to expand our partnership with the Texas Golf Association and showcase our products at both the Texas Amateur and the Texas Mid-Amateur,” said Tom Wineland, Vice President of Sales for Hytera US. “We value our partnership and the opportunity to showcase our industry-leading products to the entire TGA Membership. We are pleased to help the many business owners among the TGA Membership with all of their digital communications needs.”

Bolstered by its industry-leading research and development and state-of-the-art manufacturing, Hytera US brings next-generation radio technology to the market. It provides high-quality, cost-effective radio systems that are reliable and durable. For more than 15 years, Hytera US and its experienced staff of radio professionals have cemented themselves as the domestic experts in Digital Mobile Radio (DMR), Push-to-Talk over Cellular, and related communication technologies.

Last year, the 115th Texas Amateur received a record 1,061 entries from male amateurs in Texas with a certified World Handicap System™ Index of 6.4 or lower. Reese Roberts from Dallas won the 2024 championship with a four-day total of 19-under-par 269 at Trinity Forest Golf Club.

The Texas Amateur presented by Hytera US is one of four men’s majors on the TGA’s annual schedule. Among the notable past Texas Amateur champions are Charles Coody, Ben Crenshaw, Mark Brooks, Scott Verplanks, Bob Estes, and Will Zalatoris.
