Hosch, Pedigo, Weibel Lead Spring Preview

CYPRESS – Defending champion Turner Hosch of Dallas leads the Spring Preview at Blackhorse Golf Club after a 2-under 70 in Saturday’s first round. Fort Worth’s Kennedy Pedigo fired a 3-under 69 in the opening round to lead the Girls 12-18 division. Hudson Weibel looks to capture his second LJT victory of the season in the Boys 14 & Under division after carding an even-par 72 Saturday afternoon.

Conducted by the Legends Junior Tour, the 12th annual Spring Preview features 84 players from across Texas and several from outside the state. This is the fourth straight year that Blackhorse Golf Club’s South course has hosted the Spring Preview. The South course is playing 6,899 yards for the Boys 15-18 division, 6,265 yards for the Boys 14 & Under division, and 5,806 yards for all girls.

Hosch looks to repeat as Spring Preview champion Sunday afternoon. In his opening round Saturday, Hosch had six birdies against four bogeys. He started on the short par-4 10th hole with a birdie and had two others in his next three holes, but gave them both back on the difficult par-4 14th and par-5 15th hole. He closed with two birdies in his final four holes to get to 2-under.

Hosch sits atop a crowded leaderboard heading into Sunday’s final round. Last year’s Boys 14 & Under division winner, Cole Sherwood, sits in second place, just one shot back of Hosch after a 1-under 71. Frisco’s Dawson Ovard sits in third place at even-par, two shots back, while William Paysse and Brendan Powers are tied for fourth place after carding 1-over 73 rounds.

In the Girls 12-18 division, Pedigo carries a six-shot lead heading into Sunday. Pedigo played consistent golf, carding three birdies and two bogeys, to go along with an eagle on the downwind par-5 ninth hole. She looks to capture her first Legends Junior Tour victory on Sunday.

She leads by six shots over five players – Hailey Jones, Malena Barrientos, Sara Camarena, Julia Gregg and Calynne Rosholt.

In the Boys 14 & Under division, Dallas’ Weibel had a wild round that included two eagles, three birdies and seven bogeys. He eagled the difficult, into-the-wind, par-5 fifth hole and then holed out from the fairway on the short par-4 seventh hole for his second eagle. He had a rough stretch in the middle of his round, but had two birdies coming in to get back to even-par.

Weibel will look to hold off Shaheen Momin Sunday afternoon to capture his second Boys 14 & Under victory of the year. Sugarland’s Momin sits just one shot back of Weibel. There is a gap between Momin and a group of players tied for third. Patrick Kahanek, Andrew Spaulding and Minas Manias carded 78’s and sit six shots back of Weibel.

Sunday’s final round is scheduled to begin at 8:00 off the first and 10th tees at BlackHorse Golf Club’s South course. For first round results, please click here.
