
Hill Duo Leads Texas Father-Son Going to Final Day
CLUBS OF KINGWOOD (FOREST) – The team of Chris and Price Hill shot 64 today to lead the Championship Division after 18 holes. The team birdied two of their last three holes to set themselves apart at the top from the rest of the field.
CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION UPDATE:
Through 18 holes, the team of Chris and Price Hill had two team-bogeys and still managed an 8-under round on the day. Price himself shot 65 with his own ball. Sitting in solo second place is the Brown duo, Cameron and Dean, who also birdied their last two holes to jump four spots on the leaderboard. Three teams are in a tie for third after 6-under rounds of 66. The Breen crew (Coy and Pat), the Smith duo (Brannon and Cullen), and the Hollomon team (Casey and Cooper) all sit two shots back of the lead.
NET FLIGHTS UPDATE:
Out of 39 teams that teed off today, 37 finished play. The remaining teams will begin play at 8:00 am tomorrow morning.
Hogan Flight: The Hobson team of Trip and Burl shot 66 today to lead the flight by two shots, at 11-under total. Wes Welch and Justin Blackledge, as well as the Trivanovich crew of Alex and Peter both sit in a tie for second at 9-under total. Two teams in the flight remain on the course.
Nelson Flight: The Cruickshank crew raced to beat darkness with a late sprint to the 18th tee, finishing with another round of 66 to lead the flight by an astounding six shots. The Medina’s, Trahan’s, and Ballard’s all are in a tie for second place in the flight at 6-under total.
Crenshaw Flight: Two teams lead the Crenshaw flight after day 2. The Divis team (Chris and Paul) and the Fullerton duo (Jim and Carlos) both sit at 8-under total. The Freisleben team of Aaron and Jamey follow in solo third, one shot back.
Kite Flight: Our round of the day goes to Zach and Preston Harvey, who fired a 62 on the day, perching themselves high above the flight at 15-under total. The Mudd team of Chris and Jeff follow in solo second at 9-under total.
WEATHER: Like yesterday, a good bit of our morning wavegot through play with temperatures in the low 90’s and partly cloudy skies. However, play was suspended at 12:17 pm due to thunderstorms entering the area, and play resumed at 1:15 pm. After a little over an hour and a half of golf in which the championship division finished play, the horn was blown once again at 2:54 pm, and play resumed at 4:08 pm. Play was suspended for darkness at 8:15 pm.
GOLF COURSE: The Clubs of Kingwood, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024, is the centerpiece of a 14,000-acre master-planned community and is home to four award-winning golf courses. The Forest Course, widely considered the club’s most challenging test, opened in 1992 and was designed by the architectural firm of Finger Dye Spann, Inc. The par-72 layout meanders through the channels and wetlands of Lake Houston and is highlighted by deep, massive bunkers, narrow fairways, and small greens.
FORMAT: The Championship Division consists of 40 teams. These teams will play four-ball stroke play for both of their rounds. The team with the lowest 36-hole total will determine the overall champions. The Net Division consists of four flights with 10 teams each. In each flight, the lowest 54-hole total after three rounds of net stroke play will be crowned their respective flight’s champions.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY: The Texas Father-Son Championship, now in its 45th year, is one of the most popular events on the Texas Golf Association’s annual schedule. First held in 1981, this tournament has become a longstanding summer tradition for many families. In the 2024 edition, Frank and Brennan Young prevailed in a playoff to win their first title.
