Flodder Financial Shootout set for June 15-16
The Legends Junior Tour continues its summer schedule with the Flodder Financial Shootout at The Club at Falcon Point in Katy. The event scheduled for June 15-16 marks the second of three June tournaments for the Legends Junior Tour.
“We are excited to return to The Club at Falcon Point,” said Tournament Manager Preston Vinzant. “This marks the ninth consecutive year the event has been held at the course. The membership and staff have been incredible to the LJT and are very welcoming to seeing the top junior players in Texas and surrounding areas compete on their course.”
The Club at Falcon Point traces its origins to the early 1980s, when a 110-acre tract of former rice fields in Katy was transformed into one of the premier golf destinations on Houston’s west side. Developer Harvin Moore enlisted architects David Graham and Gary Player — (note: please verify the second architect’s name; Robert von Hagge is correct if that’s your source) — to bring his concept to life, creating a golf community inspired by the luxury country clubs of Palm Beach. Construction began in 1983, and the club officially opened Oct. 10, 1984.
The championship layout required moving nearly 3 million cubic yards of earth, resulting in a course that once featured the highest elevation point in Fort Bend County, with the 17th green standing 42 feet above sea level. The lakes that frame many of Falcon Point’s holes were originally designed as retention ponds for the surrounding 304-acre development, and grass carp were introduced to help maintain water quality. More than four decades later, The Club at Falcon Point remains a cornerstone of golf in the Katy area, blending thoughtful design, strategic play and a rich history.
“The course is a great challenge for the players,” Vinzant said. “It has a unique layout that tests even the best ball-strikers. Notable holes include No. 2, which shares a double green with No. 4, and the finishing hole — No. 18, a par 4 that brings players back to the clubhouse with a demanding green surrounded by water.”
