For countless Texans, the first tee shot wasn’t struck at a private club, it was at a municipal golf course. Municipal courses provide affordable access to the game, creating lifelong golfers and strengthening local communities, but many of these facilities face aging infrastructure and limited budgets. That’s where the TGA, Project Muni, and you, make a difference.
What is Project Muni?
Project Muni is a Texas Golf Association grant initiative dedicated to improving municipal golf across the state of Texas.
The program helps courses: • Improve playing conditions • Invest in equipment • Enhance maintenance practices • Create better golfer experiences
How Project Muni Works
Step 1: Evaluation | Each participating course receives a USGA® Green Section consultation to identify opportunities for improvement.
Step 2: Improvement | Facilities apply for matching Project Muni grants to complete recommended projects that strengthen operations and improve the golfer experience.

Growing Impact Across Texas
Nearly $500,000 has been invested or budgeted since 2023, helping more municipal facilities than ever before. By 2029, the TGA will have committed a total of $1 million in total investment to ensure that municipal golf in Texas continues to thrive.
Dedication to Golf’s Foundation
Municipal golf courses remain one of the most important gateways into the game. With a record $195,000 budgeted for 2026, the Texas Golf Association is continuing to help these facilities grow, improve and serve golfers across Texas.
Because when municipal golf thrives, so does the game.
Project Muni in Action: Indian Creek Golf Course
As a result of their USGA Green Section consultation, Indian Creek Golf Course identified several opportunities to improve course conditions and Project Muni funding helped the course purchase a new aerifier.
This allowed staff to:
• Address bare areas around the course
• Improve turf health and recovery
• Renovate tee boxes more efficiently
• Complete aerification with significantly less labor
In addition, after a tornado removed trees that had created excessive shade, Indian Creek was able to use its new aerifier to quickly
re-establish healthy turf in those newly opened areas.
The Result: Better playing conditions, healthier turf throughout
the course, and a more efficient maintenance operation. All of this is driven by expert recommendations and Project Muni funding.
