Clubs of Kingwood to Host State Father-Son

The 2013 State Father-Son, one of the most popular championships conducted by the Texas Golf Association, will be played from July 12-14, at the Lake Course at the Clubs of Kingwood. With five championship courses and an abundance of first-class amenities, the Clubs of Kingwood is one of the most complete golfing communities in the Houston area and will serve as an ideal site for this year’s championship.

The Lake Course was designed by Bruce Littell and opened in 1977.  The Lake Course plays to 6,933 yards and features prevalent water hazards throughout the challenging design.  With undulating Bermuda greens and an abundance of risk-reward type holes, the Lake Course is sure to provide a great challenge for the field.

The Championship Division will consist of the 40 teams with the lowest combined handicap indexes.  These teams will play four-ball stroke play in rounds one and two. After 36 holes, the championship division will be separated into two flights. The low 20 teams (and ties) will make up the Championship Flight and will play Combined Score (individual stroke play using both players scores) in the final round to determine the overall champion.

The remaining teams from the Championship Division will be placed in the Presidents’ Flight, and will play another round of four-ball stroke play for their final round. Teams will carry their 36 hole total score forward to determine the Presidents’ Flight winner.  All other flights will play a net four-ball format during all three rounds.

The 2012 State Father-Son was contested at the Club at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas.  With a record number of teams battling for the state title, the team of Randy and Hunter Rawls were able to outlast the team of Steve and Brett Gill by one shot. After two solid four-ball rounds of 67 and 64, Randy and Hunter used an impressive combined score of 141 to capture the 2012 Father-Son title.
