Claudia Ramirez Takes Home the 35th Women’s Senior Stroke Play Title 

CONROE — San Antonio’s Claudia Ramirez battled the wind along with the rest of the field to hold onto her three-day lead during her final round of the 35th Women’s Senior Stroke Play at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Course. Ramirez’s final round was good for a two-shot victory over Addison’s Marna Raburn on Wednesday. Ramirez was able to best her fourth-place finish in last year’s event to win her first Women’s Senior Stoke Play title.

Leaders: Ramirez had a comfortable lead of four shots heading into Wednesday’s round ahead of Addison’s Marna Raburn who had been chasing close behind all week. Ramirez battled throughout a windy final day to shoot a 10-over 83 while Raburn finished only two strokes shy of being able to surpass Ramirez and claim the title for herself. During the final day of play the top five of the leaderboard saw no movement. Marna Raburn carded a final round score of 8-over 81 to finish in sole second at 30-over par for the championship. Heath’s Anna Schultz, the three-time champion, finished in third after a final round 11-over 84. Horseshoe Bay’s Jennifer Hoyt fired a final round of 10-over 83 to finish in fourth. Rounding out the top 5, San Antonio’s Kathy Crumley posted a 9-over, 82 to finish 34-over 253. The Super Senior Champion of the Championship Division was awarded to Anna Schultz after she finished with a total 30-over 249 for the tournament. 

Flights Division: In the first flight Jan Rapp out of Dallas capped off a wire-to-wire victory with a final round 13-over 83. Houston’s Susan Smith-Snider shot a final round 10-over 83 to take flight two while Richardson’s Jackie LaFollette finished in first place in the third flight. Austin’s Lili Taufa claimed the fourth flight and Mansfield’s Jan Rollins took home the fifth flight. As for our additional recognitions Elaine Curry out of Dallas claimed the Super Senior title over the Flights Division while Jan Rapp clinched the Legends title. 

Founders Cup:  This year the Woodlands Country Club took home the Founders Cup which is awarded to the club with the two lowest combined net scores from the first round. Representing The Woodlands Country Club was Maura Price, Margaret Bosman and Lorraine Werner. The club posted a net score of 6-over for Round 1.  

Course: Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, located an hour north of Houston, opened in 1976. Designed by Robert Van Hagge and Bruce Devlin, the course features towering trees and winding fairways, making every shot crucial. Due to its prestige, Walden has hosted significant events, including the TGA South Amateur Championship, Women’s Texas Cup, and PGA Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying School. 

Tournament Info: The Women’s Senior Stroke Play is in its 35th year on the schedule and is the second to last championship for the women on the 2024 TGA schedule. Mina Hardin captured the victory last year at Bentwood Country Club. The championship is a 54-hole stroke play competition. The 16 players with the lowest handicap indexes at the Women’s Senior Stroke Play will be required to play from the Championship Tees. All other players may select which tees they wish to play from – the Championship Tees or the Flights Tees. Upon completion of Round 2, the flights division will be broken into flights based on 36-hole scores. 

POY Points Race: Player of the Year points will be awarded to the top ten finishers of the championship division for the Senior Player of the Year race. The champion will earn 500 points towards the honor followed by 450 for runner-up, 400 for third, 350 for fourth and 300 for fifth. 

What’s Next: Two more events remain on the TGA’s schedule for the women in 2024. The final Saturday Series of the year will be November 9th at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco. The Women’s Texas Pinehurst will take place on November 11-12 at Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls.
