Cheek and Ahlowalia Make Championship Match of the 105th Women’s Texas Amateur presented by Hytera US

IRVING – Ella Cheek and Gia Ahlowalia are set to face off in the Championship Match of the 105th Women’s Texas Amateur presented by Hytera US at The Nelson Golf & Sports Club’s TPC Course. The winner will join the storied history of the event.

Cheek of Sachse defeated Carly Marshall in the quarterfinals 4 & 3 and came back to beat Grace Kalina 1 up in the semifinals. Cheek was 4 down standing on the 12th tee and made birdie on the par-4 12th and the par-4 14th to get to 2 down in the match. She finished with a win on the par-5 16th, the par-3 17th and the par-4 18th to win and move into the final match.

“Mentally was some of the best part of my game, I just stayed in it today,” said Cheek. “I was four down at one point and came back.”

Cheek is joined in the Championship Match by Southlake’s Gia Ahlowalia, who is coming off a 4 & 3 win in the quarterfinals and a 6 & 5 win in the semifinals. Ahlowalia played well in the afternoon, making five birdies in her 13 holes against Saahi Naraharasetty, including winning four holes in a row on Nos. 7-10. The No. 6 seed is super excited to keep playing.

“I’ve been playing well all week and it’s been pretty good out here,” said Ahlowalia. “This is a great tournament and it’s run by a great committee and I’m lucky that we get to play at The Nelson.”

The Women’s Texas Amateur is one of the oldest and most prestigious amateur championships in Texas Golf. The first event was held at River Crest Country Club in 1916 and boasts past champions including Betty Jameson, Babe Didrikson, Betsy Rawls, Polly Riley, Robin Burke and Sandra Haynie.

This is a USGA Exemption Event with the winner earning an exemption into the U.S. Women’s Amateur at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn. On Aug. 4-9, 2026. This is the second USGA Exemption Event that the Texas Golf Association has hosted this year along with the Texas Amateur.

In Flight 1, Shannon Fish-Martin and Tatum Churchman move into the final match. Churchman got a fast track as her opponent withdrew from her match as Fish-Martin won her match. What a day for the underdogs, as Fish-Martin and Churchman are the No. 7 & No. 8 seeds in the flight.

In Flight 2, Paityn Carter and Megan Lee move into the final match as they handle their matches handily, winning 7 & 5 and 5 & 4 respectively.

In Flight 3, Mia Nixon and Summer Lee move into the final match, both taking their matches the distance today to each win 1 up.

In Flight 4, Kate Pickrell and Sayers Allen move into the final match, each won 1 up, holding off late surges from their opponents on Thursday.

In Flight 5, Grace Hall and Melay Dittrich move into the final match. Hall was 4 up after 10 holes and never looked back as the top seed in the flight. Dittrich won three of the final five holes in their match to secure the 5 & 3 win.

In Flight 6, Kylee Strickland and Raleygh Simpson move into the final match. Strickland, the No. 8 seed in the flight, has thrived in the underdog role, winning three straight holes after losing three straight to win 3 & 1. Simpson turned it on during the back nine to win 3&2.

In Flight 7, Grace Charis and Isabel Crow move into the final match. Charis, the No. 8 seed in the flight, cruised into the final match after a 5 & 3 win, while Crow battled through a playoff in 20 holes.
