Brad Mason Goes Wire-to-Wire to win The North Mid-Amateur

Briefly: Brad Mason of Dallas went wire-to-wire to claim the 2025 North Mid-Amateur at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, TX. Mason held off a furious comeback by two previous regional champions, Aaron Hickman and Chris Wheeler all weekend to claim their first Texas Golf Association victory.

Final Results

Golf Course: Tanglewood Resort located in Pottsboro, TX situated on Lake Texoma, an hour north of DFW was built in 1973 by Arnold Palmer and Ralph Plummer, boasting Bermuda fairways and Zoysia greens. The course offers a stimulating challenge to players with large green complexes and forest-lined

fairways.

Weather: Friday’s round featured windy conditions with winds around 20 mph and gusts up to 37 mph.  The temperature reached a high of 68 degrees by the end of play. Saturday’s second round featured much more mild conditions with winds of 12 mph and temperatures at a high of 76 degrees by the conclusion of play. Sunday’s final round featured windy conditions returning with winds around 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. The temperature remained the same as Saturday, reaching a high of 75 degrees by the tournament’s conclusion.

Top Finishers: Mason posted three under par rounds of 70, 71, and 71 over the three days of play for a 212 weekend total. After being one of only two players under par after the first round of play Brad never looked back. Taking advantage of the blue bird conditions, Aaron Hickman of Tyler made things interesting going into Sunday by following up his first round 8-over 80 with a near course record 9-under 63 day two. However, Mason was able to seemingly coast to victory on the final day by shooting a clean and consistent final round 1-under. Claiming this year’s mid-master recognition was last year’s mid-master and overall champion Chris Wheeler out of Lewisville. Wheeler was at the top of the leaderboard all weekend with an especially impressive opening round 74 out of the gate firing through the extremely windy conditions. Ultimately, though unable to repeat his sweep of both awards last year.
