TYLER, Texas — Andrea Birolini and Maddox Mowad are tied at 1-under heading into the final round of the Texas Cup Invitational at Willow Brook Country Club. Both players are seeking their first LJT victory of the season.
Birolini of Southlake made four birdies on Tuesday en route to a 2-under 69 at the tough East Texas course. The 2026 high school graduate finished strong with birdies on the par-4 eighth and the par-5 ninth after starting on No. 10. Those two birdies vaulted him up the leaderboard and into an eventual tie.
Mowad of Monroe, La. was cruising through his second round until back-to-back bogeys on the par-3 17th and the par-4 18th dropped him into a tie heading into Wednesday’s final round. Mowad rolled in three birdies during his second round, bringing his total for two days up to eight.
Both players have stayed level and bounced back from bogeys, which lie around the sneaky par-71 layout at Willow Brook CC that stretches out to 6,700 yards.
Trailing the leaders at 1-over are Ryan Lee of College Station and Tripp Depoy of The Woodlands. Lee finished with a birdie his final hole to shoot 72, while Depoy rolled in three birdies with only one double-bogey to shoot 70.
Andrew Lieu sits alone in fifth place at 2-over, while Daniel Rice, Bennett Kuhns and Isaiah Diaz are all tied for sixth at 3-over. Hudson Greene, Grant DeLorenzo, Isaiah Igo and Henry Mayor round out the top 10 at 4-over.
The winds calmed on Tuesday at Willow Brook Country Club. Tee times were pushed back to begin the day as temperatures were below freezing overnight. As players began teeing off temperatures crept above 36 degrees and climbed all the way into the 60s in the afternoon.
The sun was shining as players played to an average score of 74.95, which was four strokes better than Monday’s breezy first round. The par-3 sixth played the toughest on the day, while the par-5 ninth played the easiest, yielding two eagles across the round.
This year marks the first time Willow Brook Country Club has hosted the Texas Cup Invitational, providing a new challenge for the Legends Junior Tour’s top junior golfers. The course proved to be a solid early-season test during the opening round, with players navigating firm greens, strategic bunkering, and demanding approach shots throughout the layout.
The Texas Cup Invitational is one of the premier championships on the Legends Junior Tour schedule, annually attracting many of the top junior players from across and around Texas.
This year’s champion will join a list of distinguished past champions that includes Chandler Phillips, Stratton Nolen, Ryan Grider and Shiv Parmar. Along with that the champion will receive 2,000 points towards the LJT Player of the Year Standings presented by Huntington Bank, along with exemptions into the Huntington Bank Byron Nelson Junior Championship and the Texas Junior Amateur presented by Edwin Watts.
Pairings for the Final Round were redrawn according to scores from the first two rounds as the field was cut to 34 players heading into the final round.
