Beck and Henry Tied atop Women’s Texas Pinehurst with Scaggs and Turnage
Briefly: Dallas’ Nancy Beck and Corsicana’s Leslie Henry carded a round of 74 to be in tie for the lead with Carol Turnage of Anna and Elizabeth Scaggs of Dallas at the 13th Women’s Texas Pinehurst at Wichita Falls Country Club.
Monday’s round saw quality play across the field, but two teams pulled ahead after a round of 3-over par. The team of Beck and Henry began there round on hole round three. After starting three-over par through their first six holes, Beck and Henry finished even-par the rest of the way making two birdies on holes 1 and 16. Scaggs and Turnage began their round on the par-four fifth. The duo was able to play consistently well all day finishing their round with 13 pars. The two teams will head into tomorrow’s final round one shot ahead of the rest of the field.
Golf Course: Wichita Falls Country Club was constructed in 1914. The course winds through beautiful parkland terrain unique to the Wichita Falls area. The course was completely renovated and redesigned in 2008 by D. A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard. Known for designing beautiful yet challenging golf courses, Weibring and Wolfard did not disappoint with their design of WFCC. With five sets of tees to choose from, players of all skill levels can enjoy this great golf course.
Weather: Monday’s round provided clear skies with temperatures remaining in the mid to low 70s with little to no wind. A perfect day in Wichita Falls. Tomorrow’s final round looks to be a beautiful day as well with a projected low of 48 and a high of 71 degrees.
In Contention: In the First Flight, the team of Lee Ann Penick and Sally Bowman finished the day in third place just one shy of the lead after a four-over round of 75. Anna Schultz and Jewell Malick finish in fourth place after a solid round of 76.
In the second flight, Dallas’ Mara Neal and Richardson’s Jackie LaFollette lead by three strokes after a round of 81. Neal and Lafollette finish Mondays first round with a birdie on the par-four seventh to lengthen their lead. Just behind the duo are Wichita Falls own Lisa Workman and Erin Smith after a round of 84.
In the Third Flight, two teams are tied for the lead. The duo of Christy Jacobs and Mindy Rowland are tied with Crystal Cross and Kimberly Anne Maloney after rounds of 93. Just one stroke behind them are Brenda Candelet and Cheryl Walters after a round of 94.
Player of the Year: Player of the Year points will be awarded to the top 5 teams in the Women’s Texas Pinehurst.
