Neeley and Scott Share the Lead at the North Amateur Championship

Mansfield, TX
The North Amateur Championship presented by UST Mamiya got underway at the
Walnut Creek Country Club, Pecan Course on Friday. The championship boasts 84
of the best amateur players from north of the 31st Parallel. Players
will play 54 challenging holes of golf in hopes of becoming the 2013 North
Amateur Champion.

Luke Neeley of Mansfield set the bar early with a 3-under
par round of 67. Neeley started his round with three birdies on the front side
and would go on to match one birdie with one bogey on the back nine. Two groups
later, Brandon Scott of Justin would go on to tie Neeley for the lead in the
clubhouse with a 67. Scott’s round included five birdies, and two bogeys.

Just one shot behind the leaders sit Dylan McClure, Ted
Waldrip, and Walnut Creek member, Henry Coffman. McClure took advantage of the
only two par fives on the course by making eagles on both of them. Waldrip had
one bogey and 8 pars on his front side, but came back and made three birdies on
his back side to close out the round. Henry Coffman overcame four bogeys in the
round with six birdies to secure his share of third place. Zach Atkinson of
Hurst shot a 1-under, 69, and sits alone in 6th place, two shots
behind the leaders.

Congratulations to Chase Thornberry of Allen who thoroughly
enjoyed a round that included his first-ever hole-in-one. Thornberry hit a
4-iron to the 213 yard par-3.

In all, 25 players sit within 6 shots of the lead. With 36
holes left to play, it is still anyone’s championship. The second round will
resume on Saturday morning at 8:00AM. For scoring and tee time information, please
