Stephenson Leads by Two at the North Mid-Amateur Championship

(Plano, TX) The
second round of the 2014 North Mid-Amateur Championship presented by UST Mamiya
was completed on Saturday at the Prestonwood Country Club, Hills course. 83 players returned to compete in the second
round and were met with cool but sunny conditions. With only 36 holes left to
play, those within range of the leaders were looking to make a move.

Brad Fitzgerald of Sunnyvale opened the event with a 5-over
par, 77, in round one, but followed it up with the low round of the day with a
3-under par, 69. Fitzgerald’s 36-hole
total of 146 moved him into a tie for 14th place. Brad Gibson of
Frisco recorded his second consecutive round of 1-under par, 71, on Saturday.
Gibson’s consistent play puts him into a tie for fourth place at 2-under par
heading into the final round on Sunday.

The 2012 Texas Mid-Amateur Champion, John Bearrie also fired
his second consecutive round under par on Saturday. Bearrie followed up his first
round of 2-under par, with a 1-under par round on Saturday. At 3-under par for
the championship, Bearrie sits tied for second place with Michael Pruitt of
Lubbock. First round co-leader Lewis Stephenson went on to extend his lead on Saturday
and currently sits atop the leaderboard by himself after following his 4-under
par, 68, on Friday, with a 1-under par, 71, on Saturday. Stephenson will take a
two shot lead into the final 18 holes.

The championship will close on Sunday with final round tee
times starting at 8:00 AM on the 1st and 10th tees. Full
