Soerries Claims Victory at the South Mid-Amateur Championship
(Houston, TX) – With the conclusion of the final round of
the South Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by CLUB CHAMPION, a winner has
been crowned. Tony Soerries, of Spring, finished atop of the leaderboard with a
three round total of even par 216.
Sterling Country Club, in northwest Houston, provided the backdrop for
the second regional championship of the season.
Soerries, who lead after 36 holes, finished strong shooting even
par on the front nine and finishing 1-over par 73 on the day. This is the
second regional championship title for Soerries after winning the South Amateur
Championship in 2013. With his victory at Sterling Country Club, Soerries earns
South Regional Player of the Year points as well as an exemption into the State
Mid-Amateur Championship that will be held at Escondido in Horseshoe Bay.
Soerries also claimed the title of South Super Mid-Amateur
champion by finishing the championship as the low player at or over the age of
40 years old.
HoustonÂ’s Chris Causey, who began the final round in fourth
place, jumped two spots Sunday to put him alone in second place for the championship.
Causey had a great final round with a score of 1-under par 71 and a three round
total of 1-over par 217. Causey also earns an exemption into the State
Mid-Amateur Championship.

3-over par 219 after a final round 74.
SeabrookÂ’s Shaun Helmle, who lead after the first round, ended the
championship in fourth place at 6-over par 222.
