Texas League Play Championship Playoffs Start June 3
Fourteen TGA Member Clubs will assemble at Horseshoe Bay Resort from June 3-6 for the 2021 Texas League Play Championship Playoffs. A total of 60 Member Clubs participated during the season, tying a record for League Play’s highest participation and popularity numbers.
Pecan Plantation Country Club in Granbury and LakeRidge Country Club in Lubbock were the only clubs to go undefeated during the regular season. Three other clubs, Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Austin and Odessa Country Club (Old Course) finished with one loss.
“It was great to see all the clubs participating this year after dealing with the COVID-19 restrictions in 2020,” said Andrea Daly, TGA Tournament Manager and chief administrator of Texas League Play. “As always, we are excited to be back at Horseshoe Bay for another great playoff series. It should be a fun week of competition and comradery.”
Three of the 14 clubs that qualified for the single-elimination bracket playoffs are past Texas League Play titleholders. They are Odessa, 2019 champions and last year’s runners-up, Tierra Verde Golf Club in Arlington, who won three straight from 2013-15, and 2012 champions Green Tree Country Club in Midland.
During Texas League Play’s eight-week regular season, each club plays a home-and-away series against the three other clubs in its conference for six matches overall. Club teams are comprised of eight players and each match consists of four separate four-ball matches using a Nassau point system. Three points are available for each match – front nine, back nine and overall 18 holes – and the team that scores 6.5 points or more wins the match.
The 14 conference winners are seeded into the Championship Playoffs based on the total number of points accumulated during the regular season. Las Colinas Country Club earned the No. 1 seed with 49 points. The first- and second-round matches will be played June 3-4, semifinals on June 5 and the final on June 6. All matches are 18 holes and will be contested on the Apple Rock Course.
At last year’s championship held at Horseshoe Bay Resort, Nutcracker Golf Club in Granbury defeated Odessa Country Club’s Old Course team, 7.5-3.5, in the final match.
Nutcracker was knocked out of this year’s Championship Playoffs by conference rival Tierra Verde, setting the stage for a new champion to be crowned at Apple Rock.
Live scoring updates and daily recaps from the playoffs will be available once the action gets under way from Horseshoe Bay Resort.
