South Team 5 7.5 23 35.5
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Both teams had a lot of talent. I know the South got out to a big lead, but we were very evenly matched and that’s how it ended up. We just barely squeaked by. It was a great event and went down to the very last match. Can’t do any better than that”, South Captain Pat Youngs said.
GOLF COURSE: Grand Pines Golf Club, which made its debut in 2005, is the newest of the three courses at Bentwater, joining the Weiskopf Course (opened in 1989) and the Miller Course (1992). Designed by Jeffrey Blume, Grand Pines is situated on a pristine 182-acre site highlighted by dramatic elevation changes, natural water features, and densely wooded areas. The 7,100-yard, par-72 course is acclaimed for its distinctive mounding and bunkers that complement the topography and impact shot values, along with large, undulating greens and collection areas.
WEATHER: Sunday saw sunny skies and warmer temperatures that got up to the low 70’s by the end of the final matches.
SINGLES MATCHES: The South Team entered Sunday’s Singles Matches, the final portion of the Texas Shootout, with an 11-point lead. The North Team did everything they could on Sunday morning to make up the deficit but fell just short as they failed to claim victory for the first time since 2019. Scott Maurer, Josh Pasco, Lewis Stephenson, and Rob Couture each earned 3 points in their individual matches to propel the North’s late charge.
Joey Gullion and Padden Nelson came in clutch for the South by each earning a full three points in their match. Sandy Pierce, the 2021 Texas Senior Amateur champion, also earned a match victory for the South. It was Clay Fullick that earned the deciding point for the South though. In the final match of the championship Fullick earned one point by winning the back nine over Kevin Doskocil. Fullick lost four holes on the front but returned the favor to Doskocil by winning four of his own on the back.
