Women’s Texas Pinehurst Heads to Sterling CC
HOUSTON – The 2023 Women’s Texas Pinehurst will be played Nov. 6-7 at Sterling Country Club in Houston. This will be the eleventh playing of the season finale event on the TGA women’s schedule.
The Sterling Course was constructed in the Fall of 2011. Designed by Jeff Blume, Sterling features elevation changes and rolling hills unique to the Houston area. Known for designing beautiful yet challenging golf courses, Blume did not disappoint with his design of Sterling. With five sets of tees to choose from, players of all skill levels are able to enjoy this great golf course.
Sterling Country Club at Houston National includes a double-sided driving range and practice facility. Sterling members enjoy unlimited golf on a private course, as well as access to the daily-fee course, Houston National. If you’re looking for championship golf, casual elegance and Texas hospitality, then look no further than Sterling Country Club.
“Sterling is fantastic place to be able to bring our women for the final event of the year,” TGA Championship Administrator Katie O’Connell said. “We’re proud to be able to partner with them to put on a great event.”
The Women’s Texas Pinehurst has a starting field of 50 teams (100 players). Scheduled for 36 holes of Chapman Stroke Play, also known as the Pinehurst Format, each player will hit their own tee shot. Next, the player will hit from their partner’s ball and vice versa. After the second shot, the partners select which ball they wish to score. Once they have chosen the ball, the team will play alternate shot until the ball is holed. The field will be preflight based on combined Handicap Indexes.
At the 2022 Women’s Texas Pinehurst Arlington’s Melissa Loh and Camry Tardy of Dallas carded rounds of 5-under 67 and 4-under 68 to win by five strokes at Indian Creek Golf Club. The duo began the final round one-shot with a one-shot advantage and didn’t waver.
This year’s field includes another strong contingent of Texas women golfers. It includes the 2017 champions Joanna Davis and Marian Barker, 2020 & 2021 champions Caitlyn Stanley and Meghan Moake, and 2016 & 2018 champions Anna Schultz and Jewell Malick.
