Bill Penn Internship Program
A paid summer internship program for high school students to work and learn at a TGA Member Club.
Applications for the Bill Penn Internships open March 1. To apply, email resume and cover letter to Brian Fry, Manager of Outreach/TGA Foundation, at bfry@txga.org. The deadline to submit applications is May 1. Must be at least 16 years of age to apply.
One of life’s great accomplishments may be finding employment that is fun, exciting and fulfilling. The Bill Penn Internship Program provides high school students with an introduction to the vast network of jobs, mentors and opportunities the golf industry provides.
Prospective interns complete a thorough application process detailing their interests and goals and are then interviewed by representatives from both the TGA and the prospective member club. Once hired, interns work on a rotating schedule providing them with opportunities to work in multiple areas of club operations.
The clubs get to hire high schoolers with an interest in golf to fill seasonal employment needs and up to $3,000 in grant funding from the TGA Foundation to offset the personnel costs.
The internship program was named in honor of Bill Penn, a past Executive Director of the Texas Golf Association and a true ambassador of the game. Penn was a dedicated servant of the game and spent many years as a volunteer and administrator helping to grow and support golf in Texas.
Program Goals
• Introduce motivated youth to the many highly respected jobs and careers available in the golf industry.
• Help TGA clubs invest in their local communities.
• Help grow the game by providing high school students experience in the golf industry.
