Men’s Texas Player of the Year Points
The Texas Player of the Year award will be given to the player that earns the most points throughout the calendar year. Points are earned through both Texas Golf Association championships and USGA qualifying and championships. Points can be earned from the following events: Texas Amateur, Texas Mid-Amateur, Texas Four-Ball, Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Mid-Amateur, U.S. Amateur Four-Ball, U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Open.
To be eligible for the award, a player must play in at least one (1) TGA event during the year. Players will earn points based on the scale outlined on the “Breakdown” page, which can be accessed using the link at the bottom of this page. During the season, players will be able to view the current year’s point standings on the Texas Golf Association website. If there is a tie for Player of the Year, Co-Players of the Year will be named.
Statewide ties will be broken to determine participants for any TGA selected team in the following order:
1. By the better finish in current year’s Mid-Amateur Championship
2. By the better finish in current year’s Amateur Championship
3. Low final round in current year’s Amateur Championship
The Texas Senior Player of the Year award will be given to the player that earns the most points through the calendar year. Points are earned through both Texas Golf Association championships and USGA qualifying and championships. Points can be earned from the following events: Texas Senior Amateur, Texas Amateur, Texas Mid-Amateur, Texas Four-Ball, Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play, West Texas Amateur, Regional Senior Amateur, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Senior Amateur and U.S. Mid-Amateur.
The Senior Player of the Year award will be given to the player that earns the most points through the calendar year. To be eligible for the award, a player must play in at least one (1) TGA event during the year and be 55 years of age or older. For events with multiple age divisions Senior Player of the Year points will only be split if the tie is with another Senior Player.
During the season, players will be able to view the current year’s point standings below. If there is a tie for the Senior Player of the Year, Co-Players of the Year will be named.
The Texas Super Senior Player of the Year award will be given to the player that earns the most points through the calendar year. Points are earned through both Texas Golf Association championships and USGA qualifying and championships. Points can be earned from the following events: Texas Super Senior Amateur, Texas Senior Amateur, Texas Four-Ball, West Texas Amateur, Regional Senior Amateur, U.S. Senior Open, and U.S. Senior Amateur.
The Super Senior Player of the Year award will be given to the player that earns the most points through the calendar year. To be eligible for the award, a player must play in at least one (1) TGA event during the year and be 65 years of age or older. For events with multiple age divisions Super Senior Player of the Year points will only be split if the tie is with another Super Senior Player.
During the season, players will be able to view the current year’s point standings below. If there is a tie for the Super Senior Player of the Year, Co-Players of the Year will be named.
The Regional Player of the Year points list is designated to recognize outstanding individual achievement, designate the Texas Shootout Team, and reward players for exceptional performance by granting exemptions into future TGA events. Points are awarded for Regional events only. Points can be earned from the following Regional events: Regional Amateur, Regional Mid- Amateur, Regional Four-Ball and West Texas Amateur.
The player earning the most points during the calendar year will be named Regional Player of the Year in their respective region and will receive the year-end award. Additionally, the Regional Player of the Year will also be awarded 400 points in the current TGA State Player of the Year points list.
The top four (4) players from each Regional points list will be named to the Texas Shootout team, and the top three (3) will also earn an automatic exemption into the following year’s Texas Amateur.
The TGA Medalist Series Player of the Year Points List is for all Medalist Series events. There is a Medalist North, Hill Country, and Gulf Coast player of the year points list. New to 2023 there will also be a Medalist Senior Player of the Year in each region. Each regional Medalist Player of the Year award will be given to one player in both the Open and Senior Division that earn the most points in that region during the Medalist Series season, consisting of three events per region. Medalist North, Hill Country, and Gulf Coast points can only be earned at Medalist Events in their respective regions. A Medalist North event will not award points to Hill Country or Gulf Coast.
Exemptions for other Texas Golf Association championship events will be granted based on each region’s Player of the Year Points List following the conclusion of the Medalist Series season Players will have the opportunity to earn an exemption into the following events:
- Texas Mid-Amateur: Player of the Year from the Medalist North, Hill Country, and Gulf Coast from that current year;
- Texas Senior Amateur: Senior Player of the Year from the Medalist North, Hill Country, and Gulf Coast from that current year;
- North Mid-Amateur: Top five (5) players from previous year’s Medalist North Points List;
- South Mid-Amateur: Top five (5) players from previous year’s Medalist Hill Country & Gulf Coast Points List;
- North Amateur: Top five (5) players from current year’s Medalist North Points List;
- South Amateur: Top five (5) players from current year’s Medalist Hill Country & Gulf Coast Points List;
The Texas Golf Association awards Player of the Year in the following categories: Statewide, Super Senior, Senior, North Regional and South Regional. These awards are presented annually to the players that accumulate the most performance points throughout the calendar year in their respective category.
