2026 Regional Mid-Amateur’s set for March 20-22

The Texas Golf Association’s 2026 men’s regional tournament series continues with the North and South Regional Mid-Amateurs. The competitions are set for March 20-22 and held concurrently.

The North Regional Mid-Amateur will be held at Cleburne Golf Links in Cleburne. Golf has been part of Cleburne for more than a century, beginning with the founding of Cleburne Country Club in 1905 along the Nolan River. The club quickly became a regional destination and launched the Cleburne Invitational in 1929, won by future legend Ben Hogan of Fort Worth. Golf continued to grow locally with courses such as Blue Bonnet Golf Course and later Nolan River Country Club. Today, that tradition lives on at Cleburne Golf Links, which opened in 2009 and continues the community’s long-standing connection to the game.

The South Mid-Amateur will head to Forest Creek Golf Club in Round Rock, a suburb just 30 minutes North of Austin. Nearly 25 years ago, the City of Round Rock made a visionary move by developing Forest Creek Golf Club and the surrounding community, transforming what was once open prairie into a premier golf destination. Designed by Dick Phelps, this 7,147-yard championship course is the longest-standing 18-hole layout in Williamson County east of IH-35, offering a mix of challenging holes, water features, and tree-lined fairways that test both power and precision. Known for its meticulously maintained greens, engaging front and back nine, and standout holes like the twisting 16th and demanding 18th, Forest Creek combines championship golf with a full-service pro shop, snack bar, and professional practice facilities, making it the centerpiece of the thriving Forest Creek community.

First introduced in 2003, the Regional Mid-Amateur tournaments welcome male amateur golfers aged 25 and older by the start of the event. Eligible players must hold a current WHS™ Handicap Index of 8.4 or lower through a TGA member club and live within the region corresponding to their championship. The boundary separating the North and South regions follows the 31st parallel, which runs through Salado.

Both the North and South championships follow the same competitive structure. The field consists of 84 players who compete in 54 holes of individual stroke play over three days, with no cut. In addition to naming an overall champion, the tournament also highlights the low mid-master, awarded to the top performer aged 40 and above.

Performance points for the regional events contribute to the yearlong North and South Regional Player of the Year standings, with the top 30 finishers and ties receiving points. The top three finishers, plus ties, along with the low mid-master, will earn exemptions into the 43rd Texas Mid-Amateur presented by Hytera US, scheduled for Oct. 2-4 at Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls.

First and second-round pairings and tee times will be published on the TGA website by March 17. Fans can also follow live scoring and daily recaps online once play begins at Cleburne Golf Links and Forest Creek Golf Club.

At the 2025 North Mid-Amateur, hosted at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, Brad Mason of Dallas came out on top going wire-to-wire with rounds of 70-71-71 to get to 4-under for the event. His 212 total score was good enough to beat the field by three strokes over the 42nd Texas Mid-Amateur Champion Kendrick Vinar of Richardson. Chris Wheeler of Addison locked up his second Mid-Master recognition in a row with an even par 216 for the event.

Broc Haymon of League City locked up the 2025 South Mid-Amateur with a 5-under 69-76-66. Haymon’s 211 total score helped lift the League City resident over Jake Goodman of San Antonio by four strokes. Casey Carnes of Schertz locked up the mid-master recognition with an even par 216 for the event.
