Chris and Price Hill Win Weather-Shortened Father-Son
THE CLUBS OF KINGWOOD – Due to rotating storms in the area which lead to unplayable course conditions, Sunday’s play was cancelled, and the championship division was scored based on an 18-hole total. The team of Chris and Price Hill have been crowned the 45th Texas Father-Son champions.
DOWN THE LEADERBOARD:
The Brown team of Cameron and Dean took second place by themselves after posting 65. The Breens (Coy and Pat), The Smiths (Brannon and Cullen), and the Hollomons (Casey and Cooper) all tied for third after shooting 6-under rounds of 66.
NET FLIGHTS UPDATE:
Today’s weather suspension also canceled the third round of the net division. All net champions were crowned based on their 36-hole total from the first two days.
Hogan Flight: Trip and Burl Hobson ultimately were crowned champions after their two-round total of 133, 11-under-par.
Nelson Flight: Thomas and Blake Cruickshank shot 66 both days to win their flight by six shots, finishing at 12-under-par total.
Crenshaw Flight: The Divis team of Chris and Paul, and the Fullerton duo of Jim and Carlos were crowned co-champions in the Crenshaw flight. Both teams shot an 8-under 136 over their two rounds.
Kite Flight: Zach and Preston Harvey, who is 11 years old, were crowned champions of their flight after yesterday’s round of 62, the low round of any flight. Their 15-under total lead to a 6-shot victory in their flight.
WEATHER: Play resumed at 8:00 am, and players were again greeted with a warm, sunny morning. Temperatures reached 90 degrees before cool breezes and thunderstorms rolled in, which lead to play being suspended at 1:03 pm. As 5:00 pm rolled around, the TGA staff made the decision to cancel play as the course took on too much water to get to a playable level today.
GOLF COURSE: The Clubs of Kingwood, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024, is the centerpiece of a 14,000-acre master-planned community and is home to four award-winning golf courses. The Forest Course, widely considered the club’s most challenging test, opened in 1992 and was designed by the architectural firm of Finger Dye Spann, Inc. The par-72 layout meanders through the channels and wetlands of Lake Houston and is highlighted by deep, massive bunkers, narrow fairways, and small greens.
FORMAT: This year, the Championship Division consists of 40 teams. These teams played four-ball stroke play for their 18-hole round that was played. The team with the lowest 18-hole total will determine the overall champions. The Net Division consists of four flights with 10 teams each. In each flight, the lowest 36-hole total after two rounds of net stroke play will be crowned their respective flight’s champions.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY: The Texas Father-Son Championship, now in its 45th year, is one of the most popular events on the Texas Golf Association’s annual schedule.
