Tournament Leaderboard

Champions: Duncanville’s Daniel Ferguson broke out of a 4-way tie for the lead with an exciting eagle on his final hole to finish 2 shots clear of his competitors. He finished an impressive weekend with a 3-under par score of 141. The leaderboard was bunched throughout the day with more than a dozen players within a couple shots of the lead. This is the future DBU Patriot’s first Legends Junior Tour victory.  Dallas’s Adrienne Ahn started the final round 2 strokes behind the leader and birdied her final hole to secure a hard fought one stroke victory. Ahn birdied 3 of her last 5 holes to complete the comeback.  Grapevine’s Declan Dent started his final round with a one-shot deficit and his 1-under par 71 was good enough for a one shot victory.  The victory was Declan’s second LJT win of the year.

Top Finishers: In the Boys Division, Frisco’s Ishraaq Anis, The Hill’s Andre Follmer and Austin’s Dylan Knox finished in a three way tie for second at 1-under par 143.  Kingwood’s Corrington Case, Plano’s Ryan Lee, Dallas’s Jeffrey Rubenstein and Gainesville’s Bradley Knodle all shared fifth place with a final score of 1-over 145.

In the Girls Division, Katy’s Maye Huang finished second as her second round 74 wasn’t enough to hold off Ahn. The 2025 grad and UCLA commit was tied for the lead on the final tee but settled for her runner-up finish when Ahn birdied the final hole.  Southlake’s Stephanie De Marco finished in third place with a final score of 4-over par 148. Southlake’s Gia Ahlowalia finished Sunday with an even par round of 72, both posting 7-over 151 and securing a fourth place finish. Rounding out the top 5 was Frisco’s Megan Lee at 9-over 153.

In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Gunter’s Austin Anderson shot an even par round of 72 in the final round to finish 1 stroke behind Dent at 1-under par 143.  Flower Mound’s Nathan Lee finished off his North Texas Classic with a solid 3rd place finish after back to back 1-over par 73’s.  Rounding out the top 5 was Austin’s J.P. Lynch and Oliver McFadden, both finishing the tournament at 4-over par 148.

Golf Course: Tanglewood Resort is hosting the North Texas Classic for the first time in the tournaments ten-year history with the Legends Junior Tour.  Located near Lake Texoma in Pottsboro, the Arnold Palmer designed golf course offers a challenge to the field, stretching out to 7,000 yards in the Boys Division, 6,550 yards in the Boys 14 & Under Division and 5,900 yards in the Girls Division.  Tanglewood Resort became the first regulation golf course in the country to install the eco-friendly, Zoysia grass hybrid, Diamond Zoysia, on its greens. This type of green makes for a wonderful putting experience all year long. Dr. Milton Engleke and his team at Texas A&M, created this Diamond Zoysia hybrid that thrives in the Texas summer heat and dry conditions.

Weather: Golfers were greeted in the morning with chilly temperatures in the 60’s.  Sunny skies and a light breeze paired with afternoon highs in the mid-eighties made for a delightful day of golf at Tanglewood Resort.

Tournament Format: The North Texas Classic is a 36-hole stroke play event for players 12-18 years old. All players in the field are required to have an active membership with the Texas Junior Golf Alliance. The North Texas Classic kicks off the Fall Swing of the Legends Junior Tour schedule.

Texas Junior Golf Alliance: The Alliance is a joint venture between the Texas Golf Association, Northern and Southern Texas PGA and Houston Golf Association. The goal of the Alliance was to allow junior golfers a clear path to the best tournaments in Texas. Each of the three tier-two organizations (STPGA, NTPGA, HGA) conduct events that serve as qualifiers into the statewide tier-one events run by the Legends Junior Tour (LJT). This allows players to compete in local events in which they can earn spots to play in statewide tournaments.

Next Up: The LJT travels to White Bluff Resort in Whitney on Sept. 21-23 for the rescheduled boy’s division of the 98th Texas Junior Amateur. For more information on the 98th Texas Junior Amateur, click here.
