89th Texas Senior Amateur presented by Republic Aviation set for September 11-13
The Texas Golf Association’s major championship run continues with the 89th Texas Senior Amateur presented by Republic Aviation. The championship is set for Sept. 11-13 at BraeBurn Country Club in Houston.
“We could not be more excited to kick off another edition of the Texas Senior Amateur,” said Tournament Coordinator Tyler Clarke. “This is always a great event, and the players get excited to compete in it. The history of the championship, along with the past champions returning and new players looking to add their names to the list of winners, will elevate the level of competition.”
The 89th Texas Senior Amateur will bring together some of the state’s top senior golfers for three days of championship competition. With a long list of past champions and accomplished players in the field, the championship continues to showcase the depth of talent and competitive spirit within Texas senior golf. Players will compete for the opportunity to add their names to the prestigious list of Texas Senior Amateur champions and etch their names into the championship’s storied history.
Of the last 10 Texas Senior Amateur champions, six will return to compete for another title and, for some, a fourth championship: Scott Tibbitts (2025), Near Barfield (2024), Gary Durbin (2019, 2021, 2023), Sandy Pierce (2022), John Derrick (2020) and Mike Booker (2015).
The 89th Texas Senior Amateur presented by Republic Aviation will make its debut at BraeBurn Country Club in Houston.
“BraeBurn has been a phenomenal host for the Texas Golf Association,” said Clarke. “In recent years, they have hosted the Men’s State Four-Ball, Women’s Senior Stroke Play and USGA qualifying. They’re set to host the 2030 Texas Mid-Amateur and 2032 Texas Amateur as well. The course is such a great test for players. There are holes requiring all kinds of shots off the tee, and the greens have some fun complexes.”
BraeBurn Country Club has been a fixture in Houston golf for nearly a century. Originally founded in 1926 as Colonial Country Club, the course was designed by renowned Texas architect John Bredemus, often regarded as one of the most influential golf course architects in the state. A group led by Jack Burke Sr., Bredemus and Sid Van Ulm purchased the club in 1929, and after being reorganized, it officially became BraeBurn Country Club in 1931. Today, it remains the fourth-oldest club in Houston.
BraeBurn’s storied history includes hosting some of the game’s most notable championships and players. World Golf Hall of Famer Jimmy Demaret served as the club’s head professional from 1936-41, winning nine PGA Tour events during his time at BraeBurn, including the 1940 Masters. The club has also hosted the 1950 Houston Open, 1952 LPGA Houston Weathervane Open, 1954 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship and 1995 Texas Amateur. Most recently, BraeBurn completed a major renovation led by Tripp Davis & Associates in 2021, restoring elements of Bredemus’ classic design while enhancing the course for modern championship competition.
The 89th Texas Senior Amateur marks the first year of Republic Aviation serving as the presenting sponsor of the championship, beginning an exciting partnership between the company and the Texas Golf Association.

The 89th Texas Senior Amateur presented by Republic Aviation will be contested over 54 holes of stroke play at BraeBurn Country Club in Houston. The field is limited to 144 players, with competitors playing 36 holes over the first two rounds before the field is cut to the low 54 players and ties for the final round. The championship will begin Friday, Sept. 11, with morning and afternoon waves starting at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. from the Nos. 1 and 10 tees.
First- and second-round starting times and pairings will be released no later than Monday, Sept. 7, and will be available on the Texas Golf Association website. Following Saturday’s second round, the field will be cut to the low 54 players and ties. Final-round pairings will be redrawn based on scores from the previous round and will be available following play on Saturday. Live updates and daily tournament coverage will be shared through Texas Golf Association social media channels and the TGA website.
The 89th Texas Senior Amateur will conclude Sunday, Sept. 13, with the final round beginning at 8 a.m. from the Nos. 1 and 10 tees, followed by the championship awards presentation.
