28th Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play presented by Sun Cruiser set for July 23-26
ADDISON – The 28th Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play presented by Sun Cruiser will head to one of the most prestigious venues in Texas. The championship will take place at Big Easy Ranch – The Covey from July 23-26.
“We can’t wait to have the Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play take place at Big Easy Ranch – The Covey,” said TGA tournament coordinator Tyler Clarke. “Big Easy is an elite venue, and the accolades they have earned in their short time prove that. To have the combination of match play and a fun and challenging place like The Covey is going to make for an exciting event.”
The Covey, a par-72 layout in Columbus, opened in March 2023 and has quickly established itself among the state’s premier golf destinations. The course was designed by architect Chet Williams, who also crafted the state’s top-ranked Whispering Pines and led the renovation at Houston Oaks Country Club. The Covey stretches across a 2,000-acre property with elevation changes of up to 80 feet, natural creek systems and specimen post oak and water oak trees framing the fairways.
Golf Digest named The Covey the No. 1 Best New Private Course in the country in 2025, and The Dallas Morning News ranked it the No. 1 golf course in Texas, a distinction that underscores the caliber of the venue for this year’s Mid-Am field. Nine holes require a shot over water, and Williams’ green complexes are known for their bold contours, deep bunkering and dramatic false fronts, presenting players with a demanding test of shot-making and course management.
Sun Cruiser is part of the Boston Beer Company. Founded in 1984 by Jim Koch, the Boston Beer Company is a pioneer of the American craft beer revolution. The company began with its flagship brand, Samuel Adams Boston Lager, and has since grown into a multi-beverage portfolio that includes Truly Hard Seltzer, Twisted Tea, Angry Orchard Hard Cider and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. The field is limited to 90 players, who will compete in 18 holes of stroke play qualifying on Thursday, July 23. The low 32 players from qualifying will advance to match play, which begins Friday, July 24.
Pairings will be released on the Texas Golf Association website no later than July 20. Live scoring updates and daily recaps will be provided through Texas Golf Association social media accounts and News Around the Greens.
