23rd Texas Shootout Set for Nov. 8-9

The Blackjack Course at Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club in Fair Oaks Ranch will be the host site for the 23rd playing of the Texas Shootout. The 12-man team competition between top-ranked amateur golfers from North and South Texas will take place Nov. 8-9.

This will be the second TGA men’s event to be staged at Fair Oaks Ranch, which previously hosted the 2015 Texas Super Senior Amateur, won by John Grace.

“We are delighted to be returning to Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club for this year’s Texas Shootout,” said Tyler Clarke, TGA Tournament Coordinator. “This is a great setting for golf, and we look forward to working with the club to provide an incredible experience for the players.”

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Hill Country, about 25 miles northwest of downtown San Antonio, Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club is a premier residential community offering a wide array of first-class amenities and outdoor activities, including two 18-hole championship courses – Blackjack and Live Oak – designed World Golf Hall of Famer Gary Player.

The 6,991-yard, par-72 Blackjack Course provides a windswept, links-style test with undulating fairways, penalizing rough, deep bunkers, and firm and fast greens. The course recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2024 that included rebuilding all tees, bunkers and greens, as well as upgrading drainage and irrigation systems.

“The Blackjack Course is set out in the open a bit and may not look that intimidating at first glance, but there are plenty of challenges awaiting from tee to green,” Clarke said. “It’s a fantastic layout with a lot of character and risk-reward features, and I think it is going to be an ideal backdrop for this dynamic matchup.”

The Texas Shootout features two 12-player teams comprised of eight mid-amateurs (age 25 and older) and four seniors (age 55 and older). Players earn their way onto their respective teams by acquiring performance points for top finishes throughout the year in designated TGA regional and statewide tournaments, as well as USGA national championships. The delineation between the North and South regions is the 31st parallel that passes through the city of Salado, which is located approximately halfway between Austin and Waco.

The format for the Shootout includes foursome, four-ball and singles matches. A total of 24 matches will be played over the two days. Each match is worth three points – one point each for the front nine, back nine and 18 – making for 72 available points. The first team to accumulate 36.5 points is the winner.

At the 2024 Texas Shootout held at Denton Country Club in Argyle, the North Texas team made it two in a row with a 42-30 win over the South Texas squad. With the back-to-back victories, North Texas now leads the overall series, 12-10.
