19th Women’s Four-Ball set for August 3-4
The 19th Women’s Four-Ball heads to Onion Creek Club in Austin to continue an active summer on the women’s calendar. The championship is set for August 3-4.
“We’re excited to bring this event to a new venue,” said Kristi Knight, the Texas Golf Association’s director of women’s golf. “This is typically one of our favorite events on the calendar for the players and is a great championship.”
Onion Creek Club is one of Austin’s most historic golf communities, featuring 27 holes across 225 acres and a welcoming club lifestyle built around golf, connection and year-round social experiences for members and their guests.
Established in 1974 by Austin native Jimmie Connolly and legendary golfer Jimmy Demaret, Onion Creek was designed to follow the natural beauty of the land — an approach Demaret summed up simply: nature put it there, and he only manicured it. In the mid-1990s, Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore helped shape an additional nine holes, completing the 27-hole layout enjoyed today.
With a legacy that includes being known as the birthplace of the Senior Tour and hosting LPGA Tour events, Onion Creek remains a championship-caliber venue.
“Onion Creek Club has been great to work with, and we are thankful to their staff and membership in helping host the 19th Women’s Four-Ball,” Knight said.
In its 19th year, the Women’s Four-Ball is one of the most popular events on the TGA women’s calendar. Four-ball stroke play is a team format in which two-person teams compete over a designated round, with each golfer playing their own ball until holing out. Under official rules, the team’s score for each hole is determined by the lowest single score between the two partners. Because only the best score counts toward the team total, a player may pick up and abandon a hole once their partner has secured a score that can’t be beaten, which helps maintain pace of play. The final team score is the sum of these 18 low-ball scores, requiring both strategic cooperation and individual accountability, since a single mistake by one player can easily be erased by a steady performance from the other.
The 19th Women’s Four-Ball will be contested over 36 holes of four-ball stroke play among 50 teams. The field will be split into three divisions: Championship, Senior Championship and Flights.
This marks the inaugural year that a Senior Championship Division will be added and have a Senior Division team crowned.
“We’re excited to recognize the senior division,” mentioned Knight. “This has been in the works for some time and we believe the Senior Players will enjoy the extra motivation during the event to be crowned champion.”
At the 18th Women’s Four-Ball at Ridgewood Country Club, Madison Ude of Keller and Sidney Robertson of Tyler won the title in dominant fashion, carding rounds of 72-65 for a 7-under 137 total.
The 19th Women’s Four-Ball will begin August 3 off the No. 1 tee on the North Front and North Back nine-hole courses. Pairings will be released on the Texas Golf Association website no later than Saturday, August 1.
