18th Women’s Four-Ball heads to Ridgewood Country Club

The 18th edition of the Texas Golf Association Women’s Four-Ball heads to Ridgewood Country Club in Waco on July 29-30, capping off a busy month of competition.

“We are very excited to be heading to Ridgewood for this event,” said Director of Women’s Golf Kristi Knight. “Ridgewood has been a great host for the TGA in the past, hosting major championships, and we are thrilled to bring a popular event for the women to such a phenomenal course.”

Ridgewood has hosted some of the TGA’s top tournaments, including the 116th Texas Amateur presented by Hytera US this past June, the 83rd Texas Senior Amateur, and the 94th and 88th Women’s Texas Amateur.

The club first opened in the fall of 1947 with an 18-hole course designed by Texas Golf Hall of Famer Ralph Plummer. More than a decade later, Plummer returned to overhaul the layout after the expansion of what is now Lake Waco required significant changes in the early 1960s. Since then, the course has undergone multiple updates, with the most recent major renovation completed in 2023 under architect Davis. At 6,809 yards, Ridgewood may appear compact, but its par-70 design demands precision and offers a formidable test for even the most skilled golfers.

The 18th Women’s Four-Ball will be contested over 36 holes of Four-Ball stroke play. The field will be split into two divisions: Championship and Flights. The 10 teams with the lowest combined handicap indexes will be required to play from the championship tees. Those who do not wish to compete in the championship division will be pre-flighted based on their combined handicap indexes.

At the 17th Women’s Four-Ball, the team of Yvonne Chamness and Mattingly Palmer claimed the title with a 13-under 65-66—131, winning by five strokes. It was the first TGA title for both players, and Chamness went on to win the 11th Women’s Stroke Play at  Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort earlier this July.

Round one of the 18th Women’s Four-Ball begins July 29 at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
