The Texas Golf Association is committed to fostering inclusivity within the Texas golf community by providing innovative programming, clinics, and opportunities to empower individuals from underrepresented backgrounds. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations with Allied Associations, the TGA strives to break down barriers and pave the way for a more inclusive future for the game of golf. In 2026, the TGA is advancing that mission with two noteworthy diversity initiatives, a grassroots pilot program introducing middle school students to golf, and a nationally recognized women’s collegiate championship celebrating the next generation of diverse talent.
Pilot Program with Paul Quinn College
Cedar Crest Golf Course
Tuesday, April 28, 2026
In partnership with Paul Quinn College and Cedar Crest Golf Course, this program is designed to introduce local middle school students to the game of golf.
Students will experience the sport firsthand through in-person demonstrations led by Sandra Haynie, a World Golf Hall of Famer, and Ray Mickens, a former NFL player, alongside instructors from Cedar Crest Golf Course. The demonstrations will focus on the fundamentals of the game, offering students an inspiring and accessible entry point into golf.
Lunch will be provided for all participants and every student will receive a complimentary three-lesson package led by Cedar Crest junior instructors including three practice range buckets. This gives students the opportunity to return throughout the year and continue building their skills at their own pace.
The program reflects TGA’s belief that introducing young people to golf early, especially those from underrepresented communities ,creates lifelong players and a stronger, more diverse future for the sport in Texas.
