Jennifer Hoyt Climbs Leaderboard to Capture The 36th Women’s Senior Stroke Play Title

Houston — In a dramatic final round at the Women’s Senior Stroke Play Championship, Jennifer Hoyt surged from third place to first, clinching the title with a determined performance and a final-round score of 80. Carol Blackmar maintained her second-place position across all three rounds of the Championship, finishing the tournament as the runner-up.

Her round was marked by steady play and mental toughness, highlighted by a birdie on the second hole and a string of pars that kept her momentum strong. Statistically, she showed greater consistency on the back nine, underscoring her ability to stay focused under pressure and finish strong. Carol Blackmar delivered a remarkably steady performance throughout the Women’s Senior Stroke Play Championship, carding rounds of 82, 79, and 82 to secure second place across all three days of competition. Defending champion, Claudia Ramirez, put forth a solid effort at this year’s Women’s Senior Stroke Play Championship, finishing in fifth place. While she didn’t repeat her title, her top five finish reflects her continued competitiveness and strong presence in the field.
Flights Division Update: The Women’s Senior Stroke Play Championship celebrated outstanding performances across all flights. Lisa Papes claimed victory in Flight 1 with steady play throughout the tournament. Lili Taufa emerged as the winner of Flight 2, while Lynda Duvall took top honors in Flight 3. Flight 4 saw a tie at the top, with Cynthia Lange and Claudia Willis sharing the win. Tracy Moy secured the title in Flight 5, and Liz Simmons rounded out the group with a strong finish to win Flight 6. Each player demonstrated skill, focus, and competitive spirit in their respective divisions.
Founders Cup: The Golf Club of Houston took home this year’s Founders Cup. The Founder’s Cup is awarded to the club with the two lowest combined net scores from Round 1.
Course: BraeBurn Country Club originally designed by architect John Bredemus in 1926. The course layout was redesigned in 1991 by Carlton Gipson. Gipson’s vision created a course that highlighted the elevation changes and rolling terrain that is unique to this surrounding area. In 2021 BraeBurn commissioned Tripp Davis & Associates to enhance the playability with a focus on restoring the classic parkland layout to its Golden Age heritage. In their work, Davis and Associates emphasized added shot-making variety and accessibility for players of all skill levels.
Tournament Info: The Women’s Senior Stroke Play is on its 36th year on schedule. Claudia Rameriz captured the victory last year at Walden at Lake Conroe Golf Club. The championship is a 54-hole stroke competition. The 16 players with the lowest handicap indexes at the Women’s Senior Stroke Play must play from the Championship Tees. All other players may select which tees they wish to play from – the Championship Tees or the Flights Tees. Upon completion of Round 2, the flights division will be broken into flights based on 36-hole scores.

Senior POY Points Race: Senior Player of the Year points will be awarded to the top ten finishers of the championship division for the Senior Player of the Year race. The champion will earn 500 points towards the honor followed by 450 for the runner-up, 400 for third, 350 for fourth and 300 for fifth.
