PORT ARANSAS—Cyrus Turner of Austin shot 3-under-par 68 in the first round of the James A. Ragan Memorial and leads by one stroke in the Boys 15-18 Division at Palmilla Beach Golf Club in Port Aransas. Allen’s Ellie Szeryk leads the Girls Division at 1-under-par, while Dallas’ Turner Hosch sits atop the Boys 14 & Under Division heading into the second round.
 
Turner, who started his round on No. 10, eagled the 556-yard par-5 and followed that up with a birdie on the 381-yard 12th hole.  He would finish with four birdies in his first round and played the par 5s at 2-under. Turner is playing in his first Legends Junior Tour Event in 2015.
 
San Antonio’s Nicholas Duggan trails Turner by one stroke heading into the final round on Monday. Duggan started his round with three birdies in his first nine holes, including the par-4 16th and the par-5 18th. Duggan recorded two top-10 finishes on the Legends Junior Tour last season, finishing fourth in the 2014 Spring Preview and seventh at the 2014 Winter Classic.
 
Michael Rome, Walker Lee and Tommy Boone are each tied for third in the Boys 15-18 Division,  at 1-under-par. Holden Harrison, Billy Teichman, Mason Nome, Kade Stewart and Jake Stevenson each shot even-par in the first round and are tied for sixth.
 
Szeryk made three consecutive birdies on holes No. 13-15 and her 1-under in the opening round earned her a two-stroke lead over a trio of players. Ariana Saenz, Camille Enright and Christine Wang enter the final round tied for second at 1-over, while Faith Summers and Stormy Randazzo are tied for fifth.
 
Hosch made three birdies in his last five holes to shoot 2-under-par 69 and gain a one-stroke lead over Austin’s Hayes Haydon in the Boys 14 & Under Division. At even-par, Trey Bosco is tied with Holden Wisener for third place in the division, while Jenson Rogenes is in fifth at 2-over.
 
James Ragan played in more than 20 tournaments on the Legends Junior Tour. The Corpus Christi native was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer, when he was 13 years old. In 2007, Ragan founded the Triumph over Kid Cancer Foundation and raised more than $1.5 million for cancer research.
